You are the image of healthy eating, but only six days a week. Once Saturday rolls around, then all food is fair game, right? Wrong. This eating style is actually one of the main contributors to weight gain. What you probably don’t realize is how easy it is to rack up a colossal amount of calories when you throw all rules out the window, even for a single day! Here’s an example of how easy it is to wreck an entire week of good food choices in just one day:

  • You start your day by cooking yourself a hearty breakfast of eggs, hash browns, pancakes and sausage links. Yum! Unfortunately this delicious breakfast will set you back between 900 and 1,000 calories (and that’s just breakfast!).
  • You dig into the candy dish for some M&Ms for a little midday pick-me-up. A small handful of these candies adds about another 100 calories.
  • For lunch, you and a friend decide to order a pizza; hand-tossed pepperoni to be exact!  You chow down on 3-4 slices of the greasy goodness, setting you back between 690 to 920 calories.
  • For dinner, you and your spouse decide to hit up the town. You go to your favorite Italian joint and order your guilty pleasure: chicken fettuccine Alfredo!  Too bad the dish alone will cost you almost 1500 calories, and that doesn’t count the side salad (350 calories) and the breadstick (150 calories).
  • You end your night in front of the television with a banana split. Don’t let the banana fool you: this treat, depending on how big you make it, will run you between 600 and 900 calories.

We’ll do the math for you: this day could set you back almost 5,000 calories! If you stick to 1,500 calories during the week, you just undid more than three days of healthy eating. If this sounds like you, what can you do to beat the urge for the “Saturday Splurge”? Try treating yourself to a couple mini-splurges during the week. Instead of eating a large cookie dough Blizzard from the Dairy Queen on Saturday afternoon, let yourself have a cup of frozen yogurt with fresh strawberries and a few peanuts for dessert on Tuesday night.

Giving yourself small food rewards during the week may prevent you from doing major damage on the weekends. Lifestyle changes like this are the philosophy of the PGX Program, which is why it’s so successful. If you haven’t already, sign up now!

It turns out that the hormone that makes women happy puts men to sleep (which explains a lot!). On this segment of The Dr. Oz Show, relationship expert John Gray explains when oxytocin levels shoot up for women, they get happier, but elevated oxytocin levels for men just make them tired, whiny and grumpy.

John also talks about the correlation between “grouchy” hormones and low blood sugar. Next time your man is acting like Scrooge, give him a dose of John’s signature Marriage Saving Shake—it contains PGX powder to help stabilize blood sugar and maca powder to help regulate hormone levels.

You told your husband to get a car wash. He went to the gas station and filled up the tank, but the car came home just as dirty as when he left. Or maybe you told him you were in the mood for something exotic for dinner tonight and you came home to burgers on the grill. Sometimes it feels like communicating with your man is near impossible! It turns out there’s a reason for that (and it’s not that he just doesn’t listen!).

Relationship expert and author of the new book Venus on Fire, Mars on Ice John Gray says that miscommunication happens because of unbalanced hormones which may be related to blood sugar. He mentions that couples who understand the role that blood sugar and hormones play in their marriage communicate better and face less conflict. Gray recommends his Marriage Saving Shake for couples. It contains maca powder, which helps balance hormones, and PGX powder, which helps stabilize blood sugar.

Do you get easily agitated with your partner when you’re hungry? You’re not the only one! It’s in the science—when you’re hungry and your blood sugar is low, your hormones get out of whack as well, causing you to feel irritable, impatient and grouchy.

Relationship expert and author of the new book, Venus on Fire, Mars on Icerecently talked to Dr. Oz about how he buffers arguments at home: “When my wife is upset I say ‘let’s eat something first!’ Immediately I know her blood sugar has to come up!”

John is also the mastermind behind the Marriage Saving Shake. It contains powerhouse ingredients maca powder to regulate hormones, un-denatured whey protein powder to promote fullness and PGX powder to help stabilize blood sugar levels—all the makings for a more peaceful marriage!
