We've got an awesome new recipe for you: Bliss Energy Balls!

Try some of this sweet and healthy goodness with the added nutrition of PGX!

Yield: 10-15s Prep Time: 20-30 minutes Total Time: 45 minutes

Bliss Energy Balls are a sweet treat and made with natural raw ingredients including dates, nuts & seed. They’re perfect snack item or after dinner treat!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup dried dates, pitted
  • 1-2 tablespoons raw hulled sunflower seeds (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 1/4 cup almond meal
  • 2 tbsp almond, cashew or hazelnut butter
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon cocao powder
  • ½  cup unsweetened, shredded coconut
  • 5-7.5 grams PGX Daily Singles (2-3 sticks)

Directions

  1. Place dates and sunflower seeds in a metal bowl and pour hot water over just to cover them. Let soak for at least 15 minutes. Seed may need longer soaking if a softer consistency is desired.
  2. Drain water and reserve in a separate container.
  3. Add all ingredients to the bowl except for the shredded coconut.
  4. Mash and mix (a fork will do) the next 6 ingredients together until a paste forms. If the paste is too thick, add a tsp of the reserved date water and mix again.
  5. Add PGX granules and mix a few more times to blend the granules in.
  6. Put the shredded coconut in a glass or metal small bowl.
  7. Take approximately a teaspoon amount of paste and form into a small ball with your fingers, it doesn’t have to be perfect.
  8. Drop the ball into the shredded coconut and roll around the bowl until completely coated, forming a ball as you go.
  9. Place on a nice plate to serve right away or store in a glass container and refrigerate.
Store in the refrigerator.
Serving Ideas: Serve as an appetizer or dessert tray with sliced fruit and cheese cubes.

Excessive weight gain, obesity, and diabetes... Time to hop off that train!

I wanted to lose weight and PGX played a big role for me, but so did the scary consequences of obesity...

“I’d give my right arm…” How many times have you heard someone say they’d gladly give their right arm for ____. I know when I was 300 pounds I often said, “I’d give my right arm to lose weight!” Did you know that obesity is the leading cause of diabetes? Or that many experts today are saying that half of all children alive today will contract diabetes in their lifetime?

Diabetes is the number one cause of limb amputations in the United States. Limb amputation is one of the top three most terrifying consequences of diabetes. The other two are blindness and kidney failure. Every 30 seconds, someone in the world loses a leg to diabetes - just one cruel cost of ignoring this dangerous condition. Diabetes is the main cause of adult blindness and the most common reason for kidney dialysis.

Dr. Jinna Shepherd, medical director of Diabetes Care Group's first center in Jackson, says the long-term risks are what make diabetes so terrible. "The consequences of uncontrolled diabetes are damage to the small and large blood vessels of your body, resulting in kidney disease, eye disease, painful nerve disease, vascular disease, foot ulcers, amputations, heart attacks, and strokes."

Three quarters of all diabetics will die of a heart attack. Obesity is the leading cause of coronary heart disease. Coincidence? Do I have your attention yet? What if there was a way to effortlessly lose weight and help stabilize blood sugar levels at the same time? There is, and it’s called PGX! PGX will help you kick start your journey to health. But remember: always stay active and eat healthy for optimum health.

Barefoot running seems to be all the rage right now, but can your feet handle it?

With baby steps and dedication, you'd be amazed what you can do.

I love shoes; can't get enough of them. But even though the relationship between people and shoes goes way back in history (ancient Egyptians and the ancient Mesopotamians?), there was a time when humans were completely minimalist and didn't value shoes (if they had them) the same way we do today.

Now some people, specifically runners, have decided that it's time to get in touch with their inner minimalists and forego the sneakers during their daily run. Like any change, it's best to ease yourself and your feet into this style of running to avoid injury.

Want to know more about the baby steps to barefoot running? The Chicago Tribune has the details for you and your feet.  But if you're like me and not too keen on the idea of completely bare feet, toe shoes might be a better option.

Happy running and keep fit!

Remember those young hula hooping days? PGX says get your hula hoop on today!

Exercise doesn't have to be boring. Just grab a hula hoop (or two or three or even four) and start moving!

Not only does it make a great workout, playing with hula hoops can be a lot of fun! No wonder kids are in such great shape. It's not just all that energy they seem to be bursting with, it's their choice of activity. The hula hoop is a great way to get your body moving.

What does this kind of activity do for you? With just one hula hoop, you can have a low-impact, calorie-burning workout that doesn't require a gym membership. The movement that keeps the hoop spinning around your waist is excellent for toning your core, strengthening your back, and improving your balance and flexibility. Plus it's way more fun than running on a treadmill, watching a TV station that the person next to you picked.

If one hula hoop can do all that for you, imagine what two or three or four can do! Want to know how many calories you can burn with a hula hoop?

The Chicago Tribune's Joan Cary has got the numbers and a little bit of hula hooping history for you.

Happy Hula Hooping!
