A recent article in The New York Times states that having a dog may protect you from heart disease. The message comes from the American Heart Association, which after consulting years of data, finally concluded that owning a dog, was 'probably associated' with reduced risk of heart disease.

People that own dogs definitely have greater motivation to get outside and take walks. Pet lovers that form bonds with their pets know that walks and being outside is good for their pet's wellbeing. Is it really possible to look deep into those brown eyes and say no to a walk? Impossible! As an added bonus, it's equally as good for our own health. Thank you, pets!

In fact, leading a healthier lifestyle can bring about several added plusses. When you take a little time everyday to go for a walk or get in some exercise, you also start to eat better and focus on your overall health. You'll also sleep better with regular exercise and nutritional foods. Although if you're sleeping with your pets you might have to share the bed!

PGX can be part of your healthy lifestyle. When you're starting to make new lifestyle changes be sure to introduce it slowly into your diet. Take it before meals and you'll be less tempted to eat more. Why? Because PGX expands in your stomach, making you feel fuller longer.

Suddenly it's a heat wave!

Today I'm talking about ways to beat the summertime heat in the kitchen. When the weather is warm the last thing I want to do is turn on the stove and start cooking. Also, not eating out when it's "too hot to cook!" is one of the best ways you can ensure you can eat well!

Here are a couple of tips to help you beat the heat:

  1. Have a Simple Meal. Just say yes to a simple meal at home when it's too hot out. Make a salad and add some protein like hard boiled eggs or tuna. A salad is surprisingly filling too! Check out this image showing how much 400 calories occupies in the stomach!
  2. Get Grilling. If you have an outdoor area where you can safely BBQ like a patio or deck, move the party outside and get grilling! One of my all time favourite dishes is this grilled salmon on a plank!
  3. Blend It. SatisFast combines two exceptional health and weight loss products: clinically–proven PGX (PolyGlycopleX®) and high quality, undenatured whey protein. Available in Rich Chocolate and Very Vanilla. With only 60 calories, SatisFast is a great base for your shakes or smoothies.  Plus, you'll feel full longer, control your appetite and promote healthy blood sugar balance. My favorite smoothie packs a punch too! I load it up with a banana, 1 cup of berries, and 1/2 cup of organic soy or almond milk.

Spring is here! Hop on your bike and take advantage of it!

Get your daily exercise on your way to work and put the pedal to the metal!

The sun is shining. The weather is sweet. Make you wanna move your dancingfeet. Well, Bob Marley had it mostly right. The sun is shining and it is sweet, but right now it makes me want to move my bike pedals!

One of my best friends used to bike to work all the time, rain or shine. Now that's impressive! But it is equally impressive to make the effort on the sunny days! If there is ever a perfect time to consider commuting by bicycle, spring and summer is the time to do it! It's National Bike Month in the USA and June is Canada's National Bike to Work month. To all our Canadian friends, let's get a pedal up on the trend and to all our American friends, May has just arrived and it's time to put the pedal to the metal!

Biking is fun and easy way to exercise and get all your muscles working and your heart pumping. It can also be a way to save money on parking, help the environment, and skip the the traffic and hectic roads! If you've never biked to work and find the very thought of it daunting, then ease it into your routine. Start going for bike rides and get your muscles used to the movement. Try doing other exercises like lunges, squats and the plank to make your leg and core muscle groups strong.

Increasing your fitness activities can never hurt! Learn about more useful exercises to help you get ready for this beautiful biking weather from Alive Magazine's Dust Off Your Wheels.
