PGX recounts our favourite 5 moments where women shone in this year's Olympic Games!

There was plenty of heartbreak and triumph throughout this year's Olympic Games in London. However, some of the most inspiring moments came from the women that were involved in London 2012.

For the first time in history, there was a woman on every team that participated in the games; meaning that each country had a least one female representing their country.

How awesome is that?!

So, in honour of this, we decided to pick out our 5 favourite moments - all made possible by women!

Check them out below...

5 Moments Where Women Rocked:

  1. Women's soccer: This year was phenomenal for women's soccer! From team Canada's rally from being ranked 7th all the way to the podium where they scored Bronze, to the sold out Wembley stadium that saw the showdown between USA and Japan, these games were full of excitement!

  2. First Time Appearances: Female athletes from Qatar, Brunei, Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan were all present for the first time at these Olympic Games. One of the most memorable moments was when Sarah Attar, from Saudi Arabia, ran in the 800m heats with her white hijab, the scarf that covered her hair. Attar was the first woman from Saudi Arabia to run on the track at the Olympics.

  3. 100m Race: Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, from Jamaica, is only the second woman in the world to hold both Olymic and World Gold. She won herself back to back Gold medals - pretty impressive!

  4. A Year of Firsts: 2012 was the first Olympics that saw more female athletes sent than males to represent Canada, the United States, China and Russia. Another first: This year was the first year that women competed in all 26 events due to the addition of women's boxing.

  5. Gymnastics: Personally, I always enjoy watching the gymnastic routines at the Olymics but it was truly inspiring to see 16 year old Gabby Douglas win 2 Gold medals this year, one for the women's all-around title. Very fun to watch!

We're getting inspired by Olympic cycling!

Read on to discover 7 reasons why you should start biking!

It's Thursday and I have a Thursday obsession to share with you: biking. Now, I don't actually bike myself (yet), so what could I possibly talk to you about biking you wonder?

With the Olympic competition heating up, I'm starting to feel more inspired to 'up' my sporting activities. The cycling events are popular with my family (we have cyclists among us) and that got the "time-to-get-inspired-to-exercise-and-maybe-try-biking" wheels in motion. I've gone biking before but never with physical fitness as the end goal. As a kid, it was a fun thing to do with my neighbourhood friends. Then biking became a once in a while trip to the dike by the Fraser River, or one of my out of shape attempts to keep up with my friend as we cycled up and down the hills of the city!

Yes, clearly biking has been low on my radar of fitness regimes for quite some time. But just as I started to watch the Olympics and contemplate the idea of biking for exercise, an article from Women's Health appeared on my internet browser: 7 Reasons to Start Bike Riding.

If you're like me and need extra motivation to start biking (or a sign from universe that you should give it a go), read these seven reasons and you'll soon find yourself pumping air into the tires and peddling around in an eco-friendly, healthy way: on your bicycle!

Welcome back to another week of PGXs' Thursday Obsessions!

PGX is obsessed with the London 2012 Olympics and the inspiration that it provides the world.

The London 2012 Olympics are finally here, so it's no wonder that this week we're obsessed with The Games! Like many people around the world, I've been tuning into the 2012 Olympic Games since they began last Friday in London. And like many people, I've become obsessed with watching the world's greatest athletes achieve the seemingly impossible, day after day!

Personally, I find that witnessing these extraordinary athletes achieve their personal bests is incredibly inspiring (nevermind that some of their bests are breaking Olympic Records!). Watching an athlete who has given a sport their all, finally reap the benefits of all of their hard work is inspiring. Not that I believe that the Olympic Games are anywhere in my future, but I find myself wanting to challenge myself in my workouts. I want to run faster, longer and train harder. Here's to hoping that I can hang onto that Olymic Inspiration when the Games are finished!

Some of my favourite Olympic sports to watch are gymnastics (how DO they do all that?!) and volleyball. What are your favourites to watch? Do you find that the Olympics inspire your workouts?

We're 14 days away from watching the world's greatest athletes compete in the summer olympics and I wondered, "What do these incredible people eat to keep themselves in tip top, spit spot shape?!" Luckily for me and anyone else who was wondering, Canadian National Olympic team dietician, Kelly Anne Erdman shared her knowledge on how these and probably all other athletes are keeping healthy to prepare for the games!

Check out the fabulous article from BCLiving.com and learn how to eat and maintaina the healthy lifestyle of an Olympic athlete!

As always PGX'ers, stay healthy!
